Fitness & Nutrition

West End House has developed a strong culture of fitness and nutrition throughout the Club for our youth and families. More than offering the typical swim and gym activities, we have developed a comprehensive program in partnership with the New Balance Foundation to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles.

Kids in Motion engages youth in at least 60 minutes of traditional and non-traditional fitness activities each day. From strength-based and cardio-workouts to sports leagues and swimming lessons. We have developed both co-educational and gender specific activities to encourage greater participation in fitness activities. Additionally, we have created activities targeted to our most at-risk youth to ensure they lead a healthy lifestyle.

Kids in Motion Café provides dinner and a healthy snack prepared from scratch by our professional culinary team. The Café increases access to whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and lean proteins, and also includes cooking classes that educate teens about nutrition and food budgeting, while building their skills and confidence to prepare healthy food on their own. We are partnering with the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University to develop an evaluation of the effectiveness of the program.
