Jaden receiving his Light of Dawnn Scholarship at the 11th Annual Light of Dawnn Awards – February, 2025.

“We can empower all aspiring athletes to pursue their dreams.” Jaden, 18, is a West End House Peer Leader who is now in his 11th year as a member. In his time growing up here, he has developed a keen interest in basketball and also matured as a leader both on and off the court.

“Jaden has always excelled in his work and taking initiative, and he develops really strong relationships with kids and younger teens,” shares Isaiah Moore, Sports and Fitness Coordinator. “He knows when to encourage them, and when to hold them accountable. They trust him and he has become a big brother to them.”

Now a senior in high school, Jaden finds that basketball offers more than experiencing the joy of the game, it’s an opportunity to lead and nurture others. Last summer, he facilitated a basketball program for Elementary and Middle School youth and, in his words: “The focus was on emotional awareness—teaching them how to express their feelings, manage stress, and build resilience both on and off the court.”

Jaden exemplifies West End House’s mission to inspire and empower youth to realize their full potential. In February, Jaden received the Light of Dawnn Scholarship in recognition of his strong work ethic, high standards, and commitment to service. Jaden shared that “Sports and empowering young people will always be important to me and that is how I want to enhance my community.”
