Summer Programs – What we offer

Summer Learning Adventures: All rising 2nd and 3rd graders (7–8-year-olds) participate in the Summer Learning Adventures. This program is where learning meets fun for West End House’s youngest members. Throughout the morning, members participate in community building and learning activities. Certified BPS teachers and educational specialists lead hands-on and interactive math and literacy workshops with a special focus on supporting each member with their reading skills. After a morning of fun and learning, members enjoy an afternoon of enrichment activities including sports, swimming, art, dance, music, STEM projects, outdoor adventures, and more. On Fridays, we wrap up the week with special events and weekly field trips to local farms, parks, museums, and more. Rising 4th graders can opt in to this opportunity.

Ages 9 – 12: Our 9 – 12-year-old members will have a pack day of structured choice, community building, outdoor exploration, field trips, and fun! Programs offered are in the area’s academic success, visual and performing arts, fitness and nutrition, leadership and career development, and college and career success. Members will spend time participating in programs within their ages group as well as have the opportunity to choose programs they are excited to explore.

Teen Leadership (Ages 13-14 Space is Limited): The Teen Leadership Program helps our youngest teen to develop leadership and workforce readiness skills, explore a range of college and career pathways, and enjoy many highlights of Boston in the summertime. This PAID, 8-week program combines workshop-style group sessions with experiential learning that allows youth to visit college campuses, shadow adults at work, develop their resumes, and practice skills that will lead to their future success in and out of the West End House.

High-Quality Programming (All Teens): Throughout the summer months, starting at noon, our teens have opportunities to participate in additional high-quality programs to explore college and career pathways; experience adventures in nature, sporting events, and at amusement parks; compete in their favorite sports; meet mentors and community leaders; prepare for college admission or career training programs; and much more.

Daily Meals: We offer breakfast, lunch, and snack daily! Save your money and please note our food policy – we do not allow the following:

  • Sugary drinks (soda, Arizona, sports and energy drinks and any juice that is not made from 100% fruit)
  • Fast food (Mc Donald’s, Burger King, KFC, etc.)
  • Candy (includes liquid and gum)

Field Trips: We offer a wide variety of daily adventures to local parks and museums throughout the city. Members will be selected to attend field trips based on attendance, behavior, and participation. Any full day or additional trips will have an additional permission slip. A full trip calendar will be available at caregiver orientation.

Parent and Caregiver Orientation: All caregivers are strongly encouraged to participate in Summer Program Orientations – dates and times to be determined.
