Winter Programming 2024-2025
Academic Success
Robotics (11-12y)
Members learn to create their animations, program mini-games, and learn about concepts used in today’s media, apps, and computers. After learning the basics of block coding, they can take a hands-on approach with our LEGO robotics club, learning simple motorized builds and programs with WeDo 2.0, Spike Essential, along with Ev3 LEGO Mindstorms and Micro:bit for our advanced computer scientists.
Animation Station (7-10y)
Members will learn how to create stop-motion animations, incorporating elements of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) through the process of designing, building sets, manipulating objects frame-by-frame, and editing their creations, allowing participants to develop creativity, technical skills, and storytelling abilities while exploring different materials and animation techniques.
Girl’s Science (7-12y)
Each week, volunteers from Boston University’s Women In STEM club help members explore the world of science through engaging experiments, challenging projects, and empowering activities. This partnership provides WEH girls with positive mentors and role models and the opportunity to envision their futures in STEM.


Building Block (all ages)
Members explore the world of Engineering by doing hands-on activities, projects, and challenges using the design and engineering process to dig deeper into real world scientific concepts while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving skills, through building stations and challenges.
Homework Huddle (all ages)
This program provides our members with a supportive environment to receive homework help, have access to additional academic resources, and build upon math and literacy skills to ensure coursework comprehension and confidence in the classroom.
Comic Club (7-10y)
Are you Team Marvel or Team DC? Do you love Naruto, One Piece, or Dog Man? No matter what kind of “comic” you love, this is the club for you. You will get to watch, read, and discuss your favorite characters, and then you will create a comic of your own.
Reading Buddies (2nd-5th grade)
In the Reading Buddies program, you are matched with an awesome volunteer who will meet with you once a week. During each session you will read and play games together, and by the end of the year, your reading skills will improve, you will have a new friend & role model, and you will have great new experiences.
Games Room Pick & Stay (all ages)
- Board Games: Members will have the opportunity to play various board games and test out their skills and abilities.
- Four Square Challenge: Members will battle for the King Spot. Once you’re there, can you remain King?
- Nintendo Switch: Members can step into virtual gaming, playing games such as Super Smash Bros, Nintendo Sports, and Just Dance.
- Drawing & Crafts: Chill Vibes in the games room with music, drawing & DIY crafts.
- Open Games Room: Carpetball, foosball, four square and board games are all games in the games room that are open to play with. Enjoy all the games in the games room during the hour.
Tutoring (ages 12+)
Our tutoring program provides a range of academic support for our teens. Whether you need 1:1 support for a STEM class, want help with an upcoming essay, apply for an outside program, or like to study with other youth taking a similar class, we will match you with a volunteer who can help.


High School Exploration (7th-8th grade)
An initiative designed to help middle school (7th & 8th) students understand and prepare for the transition to high school. The program introduces students to the academic, social, and extracurricular opportunities available in high school, helping them make informed decisions about their educational pathways.
Study Skillz (10th-12th grade)
A structured educational initiative designed to help individuals develop effective learning strategies, time-management techniques, and organizational skills to enhance their academic performance.
Rising Voices (ages 12+)
This program is a dynamic social justice writing space for teens that empowers young people to use their words as tools for change. Teens will engage in creative writing, poetry, essay crafting, and storytelling, while learning how to channel their personal stories and social awareness into impactful narratives. Through writing, discussion, and collaboration, participants will explore critical issues such as racial equality, environmental justice, human rights, and economic disparity. This program provides a platform for youth to express their experiences, opinions, and visions for a more just world.
Tea Time (Teens)
In Tea Time, members learn about and enjoy delicious tea from across the globe. They also dive deep into a range of topics from current events to the challenges of middle and high school. This program is an opportunity to learn and connect.
DZN SZN (Teens)
Explore creative processes from a design perspective, learn the process of how to come up with a design, and complete it with designing a tote bag, t-shirt, or jacket.
