2019 Winter Showcase

The West End House 2019 Winter Showcase was a celebration of creativity, talent, dedication and passion for the Arts. The evening was an opportunity for our talented young visual artists to share all their hard work in creating and perfecting dance, music and acting performances, sound, lighting and set design, as well as digital art displays.

Our host, Lester, began the Showcase by announcing the opening number, a compilation of scenes from The Nutcracker. “Nothing says it’s the holidays in America more than the Nutcracker Ballet.  The original story goes like this: The Nutcracker leads the toy soldiers into battle with the mice, and Marie helps him by throwing her slipper at the fierce Mouse King, who the Nutcracker then slays. Now that the Mouse King is dead, an ancient spell has been broken, and the Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince.” Our dancers, inspired by the original Nutcracker, created a unique version all their own. The Nutcracker slays the dance floor and the battle is all about stage combat moves. The candy scene is cake and skittles and the Sugar Plums fairies are delightful.

Following the Nutcracker, our WEH band performed “Panini”, “Old Town Road” and “All I Want for Christmas is You.” The evening concluded with a pavilion wide karaoke of “Feliz Navidad” which quickly turned into a rocking dance party!

Thank you to our talented Teen Arts Council! Ushering was provided by Miliana, Geo and Aleqk, lighting design by Arielis, and sound by sound engineer Angel. There was an animated program as attendees took their seats created by our Digital Arts Club members, and a truly magical set, designed by our Set Design program team..

In the words of Visual and Performing Arts Director Nadine Martinez, “Programs are free to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the Arts as a fundamental part of their lives. Today on this stage and every day I see the future engineers, therapists, teachers, philanthropists, writers, performers, choreographers, senators, presidents…All Great Humans!”

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Winter Showcase! And a special thank you to all of the family and friends who attended!
