Visual Arts Coordinator
Nami Yamaguchi is a Boston-based artist and educator. Nami graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2024 and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with Departmental Honors in Fiber Arts. Nami is a weaver, large scale embroiderer, and sculptural artist, with a focus in sustainable pigment making and installation. She was drawn to Fiber Arts practices due to the accessible nature of the materials and the prominence they hold in everyday life. She commissions artworks regularly and has sold work at the MassArt Annual Auction. Nami cofounded MassArt’s Asian American Student Association at MassArt in 2021 and hosted potluck dinners in order to rebuild community among Asian artists after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Throughout her undergraduate career, Nami worked as a Mentor with Artward Bound, providing sculptural art support for Boston Public School students. Recently, Nami was a teacher at the Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts, teaching fiber arts and mixed media to youth in Jamaica Plain. Nami joined West End House in December of 2024 and is excited to support the creative expression of young people at the club.
Nami grew up in East Arlington, Massachusetts, and has enjoyed working with youth to expand their artistic and academic capabilities since her high school years, when she tutored students in English, and was an assistant camp counselor for Arts & Crafts at Pleasant Valley YMCA camp. Nami has spent many years in Tokyo, Japan with her family, learning local art techniques and their cultural significance. Her art practice frequently focuses on the colonial history between Japan and other countries within East and Southeast Asia. Nami is dedicated to amplifying voices impacted by imperialism and systemic injustice through art making. When not crocheting or watching Columbo, Nami loves to bake!
