Alumni Share Stories of Home at West End House

On Thursday, June 23rd, nearly 100 club members, alumni, and staff gathered to celebrate the induction of our high school graduates into the West End House alumni family. Kyra took to the podium as the evening’s youth speaker. A club member since age 11, Kyra recently completed an internship at the Boston Foundation and her first year at MassBay Community College. She is working towards a teaching certificate and serves on Success Boston’s leadership council. Kyra said, “The staff at West End House make sure you succeed. Their purpose is to make you the best version of yourself, just like they did for me.”

At the end of the ceremony, alumni spontaneously took to the stage to share their favorite memories of West End House. Ade came to the club as a teen because his family was struggling and he needed a job. Slowly, he began opening up to club members and staff. “These were the first people I connected with since coming to the United States.”

Kevin, who will attend U-Mass Dartmouth in the fall, closed with this original adage: “This is West End, but it is not the end.”

Our College Persistence Program will coach Kyra, Ade, Kevin, and 150 other alumni through college.
