2009 Passport to Belonging Celebration

Harriet and Alan LewisOn April 4th, 2009, The West End House Boys and Girls Club opened its doors to the community for a celebration honoring loyal supporters Harriet and Alan Lewis and the legacy of excellence the Club represents.  The event was a huge success thanks to the generous support of our guests - raising over $260,000! Our resolve and spirits were lifted feeling this level of support from our community.  It was a truly magnificent night.

Guests mingled with over 60 of our youth as they participated in various core activities throughout the club; playing music in the Music Clubhouse, ceramics in the Art Room, Science projects in the Ed Center, Kyaking in the pool, etc. A festive spread of international food, representing the diversity of the West End House was followed by an inspiring program featuring some of the bright, exceptional members who represent our mission of inspiring youth to realize their full potential.

Kevin Depina spoke of his struggle to balance school, sports, and various social pressures that distracted him, sighting the amazing staff who inspired him to refocus and direct his goals towards graduating high-school and attending a top college. As we honored Harriet and Alan Lewis, the message that one or two individuals investing in your success can make a world of difference resonated strongly. Their children and event-chairs, Edward and Charlotte Lewis, spoke of the fine example of generosity and character their parents set for them that they hoped to emulate.  The West End House is bolstered by the example of the Lewis Family and so grateful to all the families and friends who participated in this commemoration.

Thank you to all of the honorary committee, the event chairs, the event committee, our in-kind donors and all of our sponsors for making this such a successful event. Our success is truly a tribute to your generosity.
