Fitness & Nutrition

The New Balance Foundation Kids in Motion program offers the most affordable and comprehensive fitness and nutrition program in the Allston-Brighton neighborhood.  We offer between eight and ten hours of physical activities each day, and provide every child and teen with a free, nutritious meal.

Our Kids Café is also an important component of the New Balance Foundation Kids in Motion program.  With the support of the Greater Boston Food Bank, our members receive a free nutritious snack and meal each day the West End House is open. Meals are filled with whole grains, fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables to help young people adapt a lifetime of healthy eating. The Kids Café is also home to cooking and nutrition classes to teach children and teens how to prepare healthy, affordable meals at home.

As evidenced by key outcome measures of fitness, the New Balance Foundation Kids in Motion program is having a significant impact in the fight against childhood obesity:

  • 85% of our youth can identify healthy versus unhealthy foods
  • 66% of children and teens participating in the New Balance Foundation Kids in Motion program were getting the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity in September 2010
  • 85% of girls at-risk of childhood obesity passed the shuttle run (a significant improvement from 42% at the baseline test)
