Visual & Performing ArtsArt education is a crucial part of our youth development work as it provides children with a comprehensive knowledge of themselves, enhances appreciation of their connection to others, and creates a more vivid picture of the world. Classes in painting, music, digital photography, dance, drawing, and sculpture engage children and teens as they grow through the creative experience. Through our partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, members can participate in the MFA's Community Arts Initiative, which allows the Museum to serve as an art and cultural resource within our immediate neighborhood and surrounding communities. Another partner, The Boston Children’s Chorus, facilitates a neighborhood chorus which meets here in our performing arts studio for weekly practices. Here are some additional examples of our programs in the creative arts: Visual ArtsMembers learn the fundamentals of design, color and technique in a variety of mediums. Classes are offered to all ages and skill levels and include painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, pottery, silk screening, photography, and ceramics. DanceDance allows youth members to express themselves creatively, while gaining fitness benefits. Classes include: hip hop, Latin dance, tap, ballet, and creative movement. The Music ClubhouseUsing new instruments and cutting edge digital equipment, members learn to sing, play guitar, drums, bass, and violin; compose original songs; and even mix digital tracts. Individual and small group lessons are available. |
